Leslie Thompson's life is spinning out of control. She is pregnant, broke, and alone. She moves back to Casselton, North Dakota to be closer to her family and friends because she needs their support. Upon driving to her parents' home, her car breaks down, and she gets stuck in a blizzard. She sees a home in the distance and makes the decision to seek refuge. When she arrives at the house, she receives another shock. The man standing before her isn't Mr. Johnson. He is Blake Eaton, and he is sexy as sin. He is also twenty years her senior. Yet, she has more impending troubles. Her water breaks. Blake Eaton had no idea how much his life would change the moment Leslie showed up on his doorstep. He doesn't even realize she is pregnant until she is in his home. He can't figure out what would drive a woman to such extreme measures to make a trip in her condition. When he discovers the father of her child has abandoned her, he is astonished. Still, he is shocked to find himself so attracted to a woman pregnant with another man's child. He doesn't know if he is going to survive being stuck in his home with her while a blizzard is raging outside, because there is another storm brewing inside. Blake wants her, and he doesn't plan to let her go.

Staking His Claim was just an okay read for me. It wasn't horrible by any stretch of the imagination just okay. It didn't have a lot of drama and it sort of dragged in places, but it was good.

Leslie was an interesting character. She had some hang-ups because of a previous relationship that led to her condition in the beginning of the book, which were believeable. However, a lot of her issues seemed self-inflicted to an exaggerated degree. Blake gave her no reason to feel the way she did. Her only real believeable issue was their age difference.

Although Blake had his own issues with relationships he seemed to get over them within seconds and made his decision about wanting to be with Leslie and Alison immediately. I loved how he interacted with Alison it was sweet and heart warming. Though, he did seem a little stalker-like just showing up where she was the first time it happened with no real reason to be there as far as I could see.

The Sean issue was a non-issue. For the entire book she didn't mention feeling like he would ruin her life she'd built for herself then suddenly it was an issue that not only came between her and Blake but caused her to pass out. It was drama without really being drama, which was weird. And it was settled before it could even kind of matter. Honestly, I felt like it should have been either explored more or left out of the story all together. It really didn't add anything to the storyline, but it could have added a nice bit of intrigue had it been expanded on.

For me the story just wasn't gripping enough. And I think it could've been a little shorter than it was if some unimportant details had been left out. A lot of the scenes didn't seem to further the story at all. Also, the editing left something to be desired as well.

All and all, if you can get past the editing issues and the meandering down unnecessary paths in the storyline than it is a cute, heart-warming read. If you're looking for a book with a lot going on, this isn't it, but it is a feel good sweet book. I'd definitely read other stories by this author.

Staking His Claim Stephanie Morris 9781449577346 Books Reviews

I love reading books by this author and this one was no exception. There are a lot of selfish and irresponsible men in the world, so it is refreshing to read about a man such as Blake Eaton. He exhibits so many of the traits of a good man. He is caring, responsible, loving and becomes a knight in shining amour for Leslie Thompson, who arrived at his doorstep in a state of desperation. The story is very inspiring and well recommended.
This is my frist book by Mrs. Morris. I must say i enjoyed this book for the beginning to the end. I must say when you start to read this book, you must come with an open mind. We all come with some kind of damage from someone in our past. Then that person who comes along to show you that you can trust again and learn to open your heart to love. Again ladies if you buy this book and start to read it, think back to when someone hurt you so bad that you were afraid to let a man back into your life. When you let that hurt go, to the man that is trying to help you heal. What a love you will share.
Staking his claim was ok but felt a little empty. The story dragged on and on, until you feel like you lose interest, I got to the point where I couldn't wait to reach the end of the book. Honestly the only reason why I kept reading is because I bought the book. The main character Leslie has had some issues in the past which shapes her views a little BUT she seemed so "whiny" and so set on being the "victim" all the time. There were times when I thought "oh get over it" when it came to her. Blake had his issues as well but seemed more in control, I think Leslie was not a good match for him, but it all worked out in the end. There was a lot of unnecessary details which I figured those were just the "filler" of the book. Although it's not a terrible book, there are some good parts, it's not one I would strongly recommend.
3.00 stars. This paper back book was only 127 pages; but, the storyline moved at a snail's pace. The main characters, Blake Eaton and Leslie Thompson must have had a love at first sight experience because in the 3 days they spent stranded in his house. Blake is a disabled Army Veteran with the Army Medical Specialist Corp which allowed him to safely deliver her baby. Despite his being 18 years her senior, their relationship progressed with little drama, their friends and relatives were supportive, she struggled with the age difference and her 'baby daddy' gave them some trouble; but in the end, love prevailed and they had their 'HEA'.
I had been wanting this book ever since I ran across the synopsis of it, and after searching endless for it at a decent price (at one time it was available for like $300 here on !!) I finally ran across it a few months later more in my reasonable price range. It took forever for it to finally arrive and when it did, I dove right in, only to find that apparently what I imagined it would be like and what it actually was like were two very different things. The errors were horrible, at one point the male character's (yes I forgot his name, if that isn't a sign of how well this book didn't stick with me) age was two different numbers, and the storyline, though very promising, failed to deliver because it felt completely rushed and not all the way thought out. I don't know, I was disappointed in the turnout expecting it to be more than what it was, but someone else might thoroughly enjoy the storyline themselves. It was a quick, albeit, sometimes frustrating read, with the pointless errors and all, but it was an ok story that, could have been better. I would have given it 2 stars but with the way lists their ratings, I cant say that I "didn't like it", it was just not all it could have been, it got 3 stars because it was "ok". The rating system is crazy, it should be 2 stars for "it was ok" instead, but whatever, the book was just ok, not one that resonated with me after I was done with it. Hope this helps other folks;-)
